Child travel consent letter

Fill in the details and print a consent letter for a child traveling without both parents. It's made in your browser and nothing is saved or sent.

How it works

Before you print

A consent letter from the parent who isn't traveling can help when a child travels with one parent, a relative or a group. No single form is required everywhere. Airlines, countries and border officials ask for different things, so check with your airline and the embassy or consulate of the country you are visiting before you travel. Some also ask for a copy of the parent's ID, the child's birth certificate or a translation.

Do not sign the letter in advance. Sign it in front of a notary, who checks your photo ID and completes the notary certificate. This tool leaves space for that. We can come to you or notarize it online if a parent is away.

FAQ

About this letter

Is this letter enough to travel?

Maybe, maybe not. Airlines and countries set their own requirements, and no one form is accepted everywhere. Check with your airline and the embassy or consulate of the destination before you travel.

Does it have to be notarized?

Many airlines and border officials ask for a notarized letter, and some countries require one. If you are asked for it, sign it in front of a notary. Do not sign it ahead of time.

Is anything saved or sent?

No. The letter is built in your browser as you type. We don't receive what you enter.

Is this legal advice?

No. It is a general template. A notary can't give legal advice, and an attorney can tell you what applies to your situation, especially for divorced or separated parents or for a court order.
