The usual methods
Google may offer verification by postal mail with a code, by phone call or text, by email, or by video. Sometimes there is a live video call with a specialist. The options depend on your business type, location and history, and you cannot normally pick.
Use the account that will own the profile for the process, not a temporary one.
Postcards
A postcard with a code is mailed to the address you entered, which takes several days. Make sure the address includes a suite number if needed, and that someone can collect mail. Do not request multiple postcards. Enter the code when it arrives, and note that codes can expire.
If it never arrives, check the address first before requesting another.
Video verification
For video, you usually record a continuous clip with no cuts. Show the exterior of the location with signage and its surroundings, the entrance, the interior workspace, equipment or stock, and proof of your connection to the business, such as a license or business paperwork.
For a service-area business, show your vehicle with branding, tools and materials, and any business documents. Speak slowly and move the camera steadily. Make sure the footage looks like a single recording.
Typical reasons are an address that does not look like a business, missing signage, a home with no business evidence, blurry or edited footage, and details that conflict with online records. Fix the underlying issue before trying again.
Repeated failed attempts can lead to a waiting period, so prepare carefully.
What to prepare
Gather a business license, utility or lease document with your business name, signage photos, branded vehicle or uniform photos, and a quiet time slot. Have your login ready on the device you will use.
Keep records of the dates and steps in case you need to contact support.
Use the support options in the help center and be factual in describing the problem. Avoid third parties who claim to bypass verification, since they may use methods that violate policy and put the profile at risk.
Preparing a verification video
Rehearse the route before you record: start outside showing the street and the building number, walk to the entrance with the signage in view, pass through the door and show reception or the workspace, then show equipment, stock or a vehicle. End with documents that tie the business name to you.
Charge the phone and clear storage. Record in landscape in good light with no cuts or edits. Keep sound clear, and if asked, state the business name. If you are asked for a second attempt, read the note carefully for what was missing, such as a closer look at the sign. Small details are usually the difference between a pass and a fail.
After you verify
Once verified, take a moment to complete the profile while you have momentum: add hours, services, photos and a description. Save a note of the verification date and method, and add a second owner right away so that access does not depend on a single person. Check that the listing appears in a private search window within a few days, and if it does not, review the profile status for notices.
Common questions
Can I switch to a different verification method?
Only if Google offers one. Options appear based on the profile and cannot always be chosen.
How long does verification take?
Postcards take several days and other methods may be quicker. Review times vary.
