How it works
Bookkeeping work from Illinois
Each client engagement is a monthly routine of categorizing, reconciling and reporting, done in QuickBooks Online, Xero or whatever the client already uses. We are a young firm and take a limited number of contractors, so we do not promise a volume of work. We do not have an office in Illinois, and the work is done online. The larger cities in Illinois that our pages cover include Chicago, Springfield.
Illinois's economy leans on manufacturing, agriculture, transportation and logistics, and energy, and clients in those fields often need steady monthly books.
What you need
Requirements
- Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online, Xero or similar software
- Comfort with monthly reconciliations and clear client communication
- A computer, a reliable internet connection and a private place to work
- Willingness to keep client information confidential
- A W-9 and a signed independent contractor agreement
- Familiarity with Illinois filings is a plus, not a requirement
What it pays
Pay and terms
Rates are discussed on a short call and confirmed in writing before you take on any client. We do not have a posted rate. This is independent contractor work with a 1099 at year end, and you choose what you accept.
This page is not legal advice. Honest note: we are a young company, and we keep the team small so the contractors who join early get the work as it grows.
FAQ
Illinois bookkeeper contractor questions
Do I need a certification?
No certification is required. List any you hold, and we weigh them with your experience.
What Illinois filings come up?
The Illinois Department of Revenue lists a 6.25% general state sales tax rate, with local taxes added on top. The filing schedule follows your average monthly liability: monthly over $200, quarterly from $50 to $200, annual under $50. Returns are due on or before the 20th of the month after the period. We confirm your schedule on your own MyTax Illinois account. Familiarity helps, and we confirm the details for each client.
Is there work right now?
We cannot promise any. We add contractors a few at a time as clients come in, and we would rather say that plainly.
What does it cost to join?
Nothing. We never charge to apply or to join.
